Memory Drawings by Abraham Murley

Drawings collected into a soft cover, full colour book. 22 pages.

I made my first book of memory drawings in 2014. I was at the end of my last year of grad school at UW in Seattle and I made only one. No copies. That book was the model for this one. Most of the images are different in this book but there was something I did intuitively in the first book that was worth repeating. What was it?

The everyday recent memories were the frame for the older memories in the first book. Interleaving of the OLD with the NEW was important. The older memories are associated with myth, meaning and power. The recent memories are familiar but inscrutable and benign. Interleaving the mythic with the Quotidian and the meaningful with the Opaque was important. The archetype was clothed. The older memories needed the container of the new.

Having a structure in mind but contradicting it was important. I was aware of chronological order and aware of breaking it.

Dimensions: 8 x 9.5 inches
